Background

The Representation Office of the Republic of Komi in the Northwestern Region of the Russian Federation was established by the Decree of the Head of the Republic of Komi # 217 of August 1, 1996

In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Komi #106-RH of November 4, 2002 "On the missions and representation offices of the Republic of Komi", a representation office is the official authority of the Republic of Komi established to represent and protect the interests of the Republic of Komi, the public authorities of the Republic of Komi, the government of the Republic of Komi, the interests of the Komi residents as well as organizations located in Komi.

The Representation Office maintains its activity in the RF subjects located in the Northwestern Region of the Russian Federation: Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Kaliningrad, Leningrad, Murmansk, Novgorod and Pskov Oblasts, Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the Republic of Karelia, Saint Petersburg and the Kirov region.

The Objectives of the Representation Office

— to represent the interests of the Republic of Komi in the Northwestern Region of the Russian Federation and provide interaction between the Head of the Republic of Komi or the Government of the Republic of Komi and the public bodies and officers of the region;

— to interact with the federal authorities and the Office of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the RF President in the Northwestern Federal District;

— to interact with the authorities of the RF subjects located in the region;

— to promote to the establishment, expansion and development of mutually beneficial trade and economic, industrial, scientific, technical, cultural, humanitarian and other relations of the Republic of Komi with businesses, organizations and institutions within the region;

— to attract investment in the economy of the Republic of Komi.

The Functions of the Representation Office

— to prepare and promote agreements, treaties, protocols, programs and projects which the Republic of Komi is a party to;

—to negotiate on cooperation in various fields;

— to interact with the diplomatic and consular missions or other representation offices located in the region;

— to promote the St. Petersburg Komi National Community;

— to promote to organizing and arranging hospitality, presentations, exhibitions and other events held in the region by the Republic of Komi;

— to interact with the mass media in the Region or in the Republic of Komi.
